Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), George Afriyie has advised the government to fund clubs who represent the country in Africa.
Wa All Stars and Bechem United which represented the country in Africa this year have been knocked out of the Champions League and Confederations Cup competition.
Lack of funding for the clubs, it has been claimed is part of the reasons for the poor performance of Ghanaian clubs in Africa in recent times.
But the respected football administrator believes the government needs to fund the club since they represent the country in Africa.
What I want to say is that I think it is about time we make a case for the government to say that when the clubs leaves the shores of Ghana for any CAF interclub competition, they represent the country,” he told Asempa FM.
They don’t represent themselves anymore but the country and that is why the government must come in terms of interclub competition.
If Bechem United leaves Ghana to represent the country in the CAF interclub competition; it is no more Bechem United but they are there in the name of the country and that is how we have to see it,” he added.
